Game days are some of the best days for getting together with family and friends, cheering on your favorite team, and eating the best foods (of course). Fall isn’t only football season, but it’s also a season of festive ingredients and dishes. I really love to find new creative recipes to share during game time get togethers. Apples are at their prime this time of year, and why not change things up with some delicious Candy Apples during the next big game.
There are so many tasty snack options during game season, but I decided to add some vibrant and delicious flair to my football spread with Skittles®. Using Skittles® candy, I’ve created a tasty recipe that will really wow guests. These Skittles® Candided Apples implement wonderful seasonal apples and the bright and vibrant Skittles® colors and flavors.
I grabbed a few bags of Skittles® from my local Smith’s Grocery here in Las Vegas, separated them by color, and got to the kitchen.
I both implemented the Skittles® fruity flavors in the candy apple coating and also ground them into a delicious powder for added flavor and texture. These are just a delicious as they are beautiful. Your friends and family will happily be cheering on their favorite players with these delicious and colorful treats in hand.

- 15 apples, of any variety ( I used a variety of different apples)
- Unsalted butter, for parchment paper
- 2 cups sugar
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup of each flavor of Skittles® , plus a handful
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon of each food coloring, corresponding with each skittles flavor/ color of your choosing.
- Blend ¾ cup of the skittles color you are using, with cornstarch, in a high powered blender until they become a fine powder. Place in a wide bowl for dipping apples.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; butter parchment, and set aside. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, ¾ cup water, corn syrup, and food coloring that your using.
- Each Skittles flavor can be used, and done separately for each color. The rainbow is the limit on how many colorful flavors you choose, each color however needs to be done separately.
- Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to medium-high and add a handful of the skittles flavor you are working with. Insert candy thermometer and continue to boil until temperature reaches 300 degrees F (hard crack stage), about 20- 25 minutes.
- Meanwhile, insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing about halfway through; set aside. When mixture reaches temperature, immediately remove from heat. Working quickly, dip apples in sugar mixture until completely coated, and allow to drip over the pan briefly.
- Dip each apple into the Skittles® powder to cover the apples half way. (Work quickly as the candy hardens quickly)
- Transfer to prepared baking sheet; allow to cool.
